The Chromium browser is basically a Linux project, and while it would have been nice if Google planned multi-platform support from the start by investigating what works and what doesn't (e.g. POSIX, OSS, ffmpeg), it didn't happen as fluidly as that. In order to get Chromium working on FreeBSD, some patches are required. Fortunately, most of those can be pushed back to Google so future versions are more and more compatible with FreeBSD.

Support Chromium (Google Chrome) on FreeBSD!
Google Chrome / Chromium is the currently probably the best web browser out ther, especially in terms of compliance with new technologies' standards like HTML 5. It is also fast and secure, enabling better and safer browsing. The Chromium project is the open-source core of the Chrome Browser, and it is also available on FreeBSD! However, some more work is needed on it to stabilize and include it in the ports tree. If you are interested in Chrome and want to both continue running it on FreeBSD and its future development, consider supporting the development with a subscription.
